Every year the residents of Waverton make an award to the best British debut novel published in the previous 12 months.

Season's Greetings

Best wishes to all our readers for Spring and (eventually) the Summer. Good reading!

Children's Award winner

The winner of the 2015-16 Award is Kerr Thomson for his book The Sound of Whales. We hope that Kerr will come to Waverton and Capenhurst, to talk to the children who voted for him, later this year.

Short List

The short list was announced on Monday 21st March and can be found under BOOK LISTS. Copies of the short-listed books are now available in the usual places: Post Office; Burley Hall; Village Hall; Mac Hairdressers and - new this year - Village Pharmacy. There is a clipboard and pen in each box for you to sign out each book that you borrow.

Next meeting

The next meeting, on Monday 27th June 2016, will be the ballot meeting, at which your votes will be cast and the winner announced. Don't miss it.

Sponsor news

We are delighted to announce that the Good Read's new sponsor is Illingworth Seddon, Financial Planners based in Tattenhall.

WGRA now has its very own blog! Go to to comment on the books you have been reading. You won't be the first.
